Is Your Website’s Privacy Policy Up To Date?

January 14, 2019

Do you have a Privacy Policy on your Dealership Website?

If the answer is no, we can’t stress enough how important it is for you to invest in one. A privacy policy is a statement on your website which discloses information about the way you gather, use and manage user data. It’s a simple yet essential requirement of having a website. Your privacy policy is simply a page featured in the footer on your website.

Why does your dealership need a Privacy Policy?

When you receive a lead from your website, you are experiencing a customer completing a form which requires their name, email, phone number and sometimes location. This is considered personal information which the customer is entrusting to you. It is really important that you are transparent about what you do with customer data. Having a privacy policy with this information helps your customers feel secure, giving them peace of mind that you are a trustworthy vehicle dealership.

How can you obtain a Privacy Policy?

As your website provider, Dealer Solutions is unable to assist you with writing a privacy policy as it is a legal binding statement. We recommend that you seek legal aid to ensure that your privacy policy is true and specific to your OEM or motor dealership. There are a lot of “free” templates available online which can help you get started, however, we recommend being cautious with these as they may not be entirely applicable to your dealership and advertising.

Are you advertising with Google & Facebook?

If you are, you need a privacy policy or may need to update your existing policy.

Third parties such as Google Ads have strict privacy policy requirements which you are to abide by.

“They apply to advertisers using targeting features, including remarketing, affinity audiences, custom affinity audiences, in-market audiences, similar audiences, demographic and location targeting, and keyword contextual targeting” – Google, 20191.

To ensure you are running your Google Ads to best practice, we recommend you update your privacy policy as per their instruction. More information about Google Ad requirements can be found here:
